FAQ

Questions buyers ask.

How much ice do I need?
Rough guide: restaurants about 1–1.5 kg per seat per day, bars about 1.5–2 kg per seat, hotels about 2.5 kg per room.
Air or water cooling?
Air cooling is simpler to install. Water cooling works better where the room is hot or poorly ventilated.
Do I need a water filter?
Yes, we recommend one on every machine. Filtered water gives clearer ice and less scale on the evaporator.
What size ice machine is a 500 lb ice machine?
About 227 kg of ice per 24 hours at standard conditions. It suits a busy restaurant or bar with 150–200 seats.
Do you sell the ice bin separately?
Yes. Modular ice machine heads sit on separate storage bins, so you can choose the bin size for your peak demand.
How much does a commercial ice machine cost?
Commercial ice machine prices depend on daily output, ice shape, condenser type, bin size and certification. As a rough guide, small undercounter models typically cost from about one to a few thousand US dollars, modular heads of 200–1,000 kg per day plus bin several thousand, and industrial flake plants far more. Be There quotes each order FOB, CIF or DDP.
What is the best commercial ice maker for a restaurant?
The best commercial ice maker for a restaurant makes enough ice for peak days in the shape you serve. Plan about 1–1.5 kg (2.2–3.3 lb) per seat per day, add 20% for peaks, and allow for room heat. A 100-seat restaurant often suits a 150–250 kg (330–550 lb) cube machine with a bin holding at least half the daily demand.
Is a countertop ice maker good enough for a business?
A countertop ice maker makes only about 10–25 kg (20–55 lb) per day with little storage and is usually not certified for commercial food service. It can suit a small office or staff room. Bars, cafés and restaurants need a commercial machine with a drain, food-grade evaporator and NSF or equivalent certification. Be There's smallest models start at about 25 kg (55 lb) per day.
What is a small commercial ice machine?
A small commercial ice machine typically makes about 25–150 kg (55–330 lb) of ice per day with a built-in bin of roughly 6–60 kg. Undercounter and freestanding cube or bullet ice models fit under a bar or counter about 0.85 m (34 in) high and suit cafés, small bars, offices and clinics. They need a water line, drain and suitable power.
How do ice machines work?
An ice machine pumps or sprays water over a refrigerated evaporator. As layers freeze, the controller times the cycle, then a harvest step warms the evaporator with hot gas so cubes drop into the bin. Flake and nugget machines instead freeze ice inside a drum or cylinder and scrape it off continuously with an auger. A float or sensor refills water.
Can an ice machine be installed outside?
Only models rated for outdoor use should be installed outside. Standard commercial ice machines are rated for about 10–43 °C (50–110 °F) ambient and must be protected from rain, direct sun and freezing. For outdoor kitchens or forecourts, choose an outdoor-rated unit, add shade and drainage, or keep the machine indoors and sell bagged ice from an outdoor ice merchandiser.
Does a refrigerator ice maker compare to a commercial ice machine?
No. A refrigerator ice maker or fridge ice maker produces roughly 1–2 kg (2–4 lb) of ice per day for a household and has no food-service certification. A commercial ice machine makes 25 kg (55 lb) to tonnes per day, has a dedicated insulated bin and is built for continuous use and regular sanitizing. Be There supplies commercial machines only.

Buyer's guides

Before you order.

All guides

A commercial ice maker is sized by kilograms or pounds of ice per day, ice shape and room conditions, not by a fridge ice maker's tray. Be There commercial ice machines run from small undercounter and bullet ice models of about 25 kg (55 lb) per day to industrial flake ice plants of 20 t, air or water cooled. Whether you need a restaurant ice machine, a bar ice machine or a stand alone ice maker for a supermarket, we match the model and bin to your demand.
